“To the Dead!”

The movie sets itself up like a high school conflict drama. That in itself isn’t that odd as I always felt that medical school was very much like being back in high school, but casting the pathology kids as the elite social circle? No way. Scrubs is much more on target when they cast the cutters of the dead as socially inept nerds.

Continuing with the odd character developments, the super-genius is equally at home rendering brilliant medical diagnoses and tripping on street drugs? I think Hollywood believes that just because hallucinogenics may make for some interesting and sometimes considered genius art, the same applies to other fields. That doesn’t work in medicine.

The killers continue to murder and get turned on by it, engaging in drugs and fornication. I probably would have stopped the movie at that point from boredom had not the hot asian chick started licking the nerdy white docs neck. Hoping for more, I continued to suffer this film until the end. Sadly, the resolution was as uninspired as the rest of the film and I didn’t even bother to keep the file on my computer.

Rating: 1/5 – only watch this if you get bored cutting your wrists and need inspiration to finish.

Engrossing scifi-war novel.
The sophomore novel by RKM is every it as good as his first stellar story. The slight change in genre from detective to war helps to make sure the second isn’t just a blatant copy of the first, keeping things familiar but fresh.
I’m off to read the third installment.
Rating: 5/5

An excellently written scifi-detective novel.
The prose is perfectly descriptive without trying too hard as can often happen with those trying to make their scifi really scifi.
An excellently written scifi-detective novel.

The prose is perfectly descriptive without trying too hard as can often happen with those trying to make their scifi really scifi. RKM easily spins back stories, subplots and cultural literacy so naturally, you feel like you’ve been a part of his universe all your life and that this is the 20th book he’s written, not the first. Both the violence, torture and sex, all subjects difficult to write (and read) seriously without being dull or deliberately shocking, are nicely described while maintaining a newness factor.

I think I’m going to be reading a lot more by RKM.

Rating: 5/5
